Each session is designed around influential artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, and others, allowing students to explore creative concepts through hands-on projects inspired by a variety of artistic styles and movements.
Sessions 3 and 4 will focus on different featured artists and their unique approaches to artmaking. Students will work with a variety of art mediums while learning about the emotions, techniques, and ideas behind each artist’s masterpieces. Most importantly, young artists will be encouraged to create from their own imagination, personal color choices, and emotional expression.
For example, when studying van Gogh, students may paint a flower—not to copy it realistically, but to interpret it in their own expressive way. Rather than asking, “How do I make this look real?” students will be encouraged to ask, “What do I want to say?” Using bold color, expressive brushwork, and imaginative forms, they will discover how art can communicate feeling and individuality. A flower does not have to look like a flower—it can become their own unique visual expression.
Art history will be thoughtfully integrated into each session through discussions about relevant artists, artistic styles, and historical time periods connected to the projects we create. This helps students better understand the inspiration and context behind their artwork while building an appreciation for art history.
Students are encouraged to bring a sketchbook to every class. Sketchbooks will be used for practicing techniques, experimenting with ideas, and completing optional exercises that can continue at home. This provides additional opportunities to strengthen artistic skills and develop a personal creative style.
Students will also have opportunities to share artwork they have created outside of class, helping foster a supportive and encouraging studio environment where artists can inspire one another and grow in confidence.
Weekly updates will be sent to enrolled families via email.
Please note: Each session will feature different artists, projects, and creative experiences.
